The Hukilau is the direct descendant of the legendary big yellow “A Taste of Hawaii” food truck that has hosted thousands of hungry and satisfied visitors over the past four years. Now, joining the ranks of successful and comfortably casual “brick and mortar” establishments and under the culinary leadership of Hawaiian and Parisian trained chef Christian Jakobsen and his knowledgeable wife, Natasha, our guests are enjoying the freshest sushi on the central coast along with a full offering of locally sourced favorites and specialty cocktails.

Christian and Natasha Jakobsen

Christian “Kane Halle” was raised in Maui and spent his formative years paddling outrigger canoes, surfing the big ones, and fishing far off shore. At the urging of his Japanese mother, the ten year old Christian mastered the mysteries of sushi preparation at his father’s legendary restaurant famed for their Hawaiian classics and Pacific rim specialties.

After a four year stint in the US Army Tank Corp, he attended culinary school back in the islands and subsequently honed his considerable skills in a variety of Parisian kitchens.

Christian, his lovely wife, Natasha, and their three children relocated to Florence several years ago to be closer to family and to enjoy the quality of life that characterizes our community.

Over the past four years Christian and Natasha have served thousands of memorable meals from their iconic “big yellow truck on 101” aka “A Taste of Hawaii”  and now they are inviting you to experience a diversified  menu in a comfortable setting by joining them regularly at their very own “gathering place,” The Hukilau.

Parking is conveniently located directly behind the Lighthouse Inn and after 5:00 PM generously provided by our friends at The Sportsman, located next door.
